What is ABA?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based therapy which is often used with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder to increase positive social interactions and decrease challenging behavior.
Through the use of data collection, BCBAs determine why a behavior is happening and adapt the environment to better suit the needs of the individual. ABA promotes the use of positive reinforcement to shape behaviors and works to teach the child a "functionally equivalent replacement behavior" so that they can communicate their needs and wants instead of engaging in challenging behavior.
Some of the key areas that ABA focuses on is improving language and communication skills, social and life skills, and decrease challenging behaviors.
