What is ABA?Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based therapy which is often used with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder to increase positive social interactions and decrease challenging behavior. For more information see our "What is ABA?" section under "Services."

Where does treatment take place? Most ABA sessions at Leaps and Bounds ABA take place in your home. We also provide the option of having sessions in the community; for example, does your child throw a tantrum every time they are in the grocery store? Let's conduct a session in the grocery store and work decreasing the tantrum behavior during sessions! We also provide services in school (as long as the school allows us). Some schools and counties in the area do not allow outside service providers, but if your child's school is open to us being there, then we love working with teachers!
-
How many hours of therapy will my child receive? The number of hours deemed "medically necessary" will be determined once your child has completed the initial assessment process with the BCBA. The number of hours depends on many different factors, including the areas in which your child needs help, as well as client availability. Typically, a child will be prescribed anywhere between 10-30 hours of treatment per week.
-
Why does my child have two (or more) RBTs?The number of therapists that each client has depends on the number of treatment hours they receive. Every child will be assigned one Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA; the person who develops the treatment plan) and at least two Registered Behavior Therapists (RBTs; the ones delivering treatment each day). Your child might start with one RBT, but we strive to assign at least two RBTs to them as quickly as possible to promote "generalization." What does that mean? Generalization means that your child can perform the skill we are teaching with a variety of different people.
-
Does a parent have to be home during every session?Someone over the age of 18 must be home and available the entire session. While you do not need to sit in on the session, it is required that someone be there at all times. Should there not be an adult present at some point during the session, the therapist will immediately end the session.
-
My child has siblings that are in the house, is that okay?Absolutely! We love involving siblings during sessions and working on social/play skill; however, we do kindly remind you that we are not a babysitting service and the siblings should not be in the entire session.
-
Why do I have to attend parent trainings?Parent training is key to success! Our ultimate goal is to work with your child the shortest amount of time possible (because that means treatment is working) but we can't do it without you! Parent training gives you the skills and support that you need to help your child be successful long after we're gone.
